Checklist for Sophomores:
- Review your schedule to make sure you are taking the right classes to graduate and get into the college of your choice. Take the most challenging classes which you can be successful in.
- Take the PSAT in the fall and PreACT in the spring. They provide valuable feedback through your student report on the College Board website. You can then work on any of your academic weaknesses through Khan Academy to make improvements before taking the SAT in your junior year.
- Log into your Naviance family connection account and begin exploring careers and creating a resume. Make sure that you add careers and colleges to your “favorites” and save your information in your “about me” section.
- Start exploring college options and creating a list. Attend college fairs, campus college visits and begin touring college campuses.
- Prepare for AP classes and you will take those exams in May.
- Attend guidance classroom presentations and sophomore parent night.
- Monitor your grades through CANVAS. Seek out additional help from your teachers if needed.
- Talk to your counselor about your plans for life after high school. The more your counselor knows about you, the more she can help you along the way.
- Continue involvement in extracurricular activities and hold leadership positions in your organizations and/or athletics.
- Make your summer worthwhile. Consider an internship, job or volunteer position. Attend summer college programs, workshops or camps. Even travel abroad.
